Complete with an unaddressed envelope. In fine condition, with unobtrusive staple holes to the upper left corner. On March 1st, the newspaper the 'Daily National Republican' reported: 'This evening the President and Mrs. Lincoln will entertain at the Executive Mansion the members of Congress and their families...no cards of invitation have been issued to any other person.' Earlier in the day, President Lincoln submitted the nomination papers for Grant's promotion to lieutenant general to the Senate.
