Description

Rare original program for a Salvador Dali exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York, which ran from November 21 to December 10, 1934. The program, two pages, 4 x 7, features an image of the poster Dali painted for the one-man show, which pictures a semi-clothed male figure and several familiar symbols: the limp watch, a keyhole spouting water, ants, and the artist's nurse seated with her back to the viewer. The interior of the program lists the titles of the 22 featured works, including: “Imperial monument to the child-woman, Gala (utopian fantasy),” “Skull and its lyric appendage leaning on a commode which should have the temperature of a cardinal’s nest,” “The spectre of Sex Appeal,” “The sign of anguish,” and more. In fine condition, with a light central horizontal fold. A desirable piece of early Surrealist history that represents Dali’s first in-person trip to the United States.
