Description

Scarce collection of five original printed color invitations to international meal events held during the Antwerp 1920 Summer Olympics, ranging in size from 4 x 6.75 to 6.75 x 4, with four in French and one in English, the latter of which is for a “Banquet Given by Mr. Gustavus Town Kirby, President American Olympic Committee,” at the Zoological Gardens on August 13th. The French invitations are for the following (with partial translations): a dinner hosted by the “Executive Committee of the VII Olympiad, to Members of the International Olympic Committee,” at the Grand Hotel in Antwerp on August 15th; a dinner hosted by “Count Henry de Baillet Latour, President and the Members of the Executive Committee of the VII Olympiad” and “Lieutenant-General Joostens, President and Members of the Equestrian Games Committee,” at the Grand Hotel de Londres on September 7th; a dinner hosted by Harald Petri, “Consul General of Sweden,” at the Hotel Terminus on August 22nd; and a lunch hosted by “Lieutenant General Cabra, Commander of the 2nd Military District,” at the Zoological Gardens on September 7th. All five items are handsomely matted and framed together to an overall size of 16 x 27. In overall fine condition. A marvelous collection of printed ephemera from the 1920 Summer Olympics, examples of which are seldom encountered and rarely found in such exquisite shape.
