Description

American female education activist (1787-1870) who worked in several schools and founded the first school for women's higher education in the United States: the Troy Female Seminary in Troy, New York. Civil War-dated ink signature, "Your Mother's friend and yours, Emma Willard, Troy, August 17th 1861,” on an off-white sheet. In fine condition.
