TLS signed “Wm. Osler,” one page, 7 x 4.25, 'From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford' letterhead, June 26, 1914. Letter to an unnamed doctor, in full: “I will show that list to Prof. Margoliouth. I think the best way would be for him to see them sometime at the Museum. I am sure he would be interested if you made an engagement. I will come and look at them one day. I should very much like to see them myself.” In fine condition.
David Samuel Margoliouth was an English orientalist (1858-1940) who was briefly active as a priest in the Church of England and who also served as Laudian Professor of Arabic at the University of Oxford from 1889 to 1937. Many of his works on the history of Islam became the standard treatises in English, including Mohammed and the Rise of Islam (1905), The Early Development of Mohammedanism (1914), and The Relations Between Arabs and Israelites Prior to the Rise of Islam (1924).
