Description

Jim Morrison's handwritten and signed working lyrics for The Doors' "L'America"

Rare handwritten lyrics by Jim Morrison for The Doors song "L'America," one page, 8 x 13.75, signed and titled at the top: "J. M./Doors, L'America." Morrison writes out working lyrics to "L'America," in full: "I took a trip down to L'America / To trade some beads for a pint of gold (2) / L'America, (3) (3) / C'mon people don't you look so down You know the Rain-Man's coming to town / He'll change your weather, / he'll change your luck / He'll even teach you, how to find yourself / L'America (3) (3), Friendly strangers come to town / All the people put them down / But the women lov'd their ways / Come again some other day / Like the gentle rain / Like the gentle rain that falls / Repeat Verse I." Double-matted with a portrait to an overall size of 27.5 x 20. In fine condition.

The Doors recorded 'L'America' for the 1970 counterculture movie Zabriskie Point by Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni, which included tracks by Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. When Antonioni rejected the song, The Doors included it on their 1971 album LA Woman. The lyrics as written here differ slightly from those recorded. A fantastic and highly desirable Jim Morrison manuscript.
