Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “Victoria R.,” one page, 16 x 12, May 17, 1875. Queen Victoria appoints Anthony Cope as an "Officer in Our Volunteer Forces...in the Rank of Adjutant." Signed in the upper left corner by the queen, and countersigned below by Gathorne Gathorne-Hardy, 1st Earl of Cranbrook. The upper left bears the original embossed seal. Includes an earlier commission for Cope, dated November 28, 1872, appointing him as a “Captain of a Company in Our Rifle Brigade,” which is signed at the conclusion by Prince George, Duke of Cambridge. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light staining and soiling.
