British naval administrator and explorer (1764-1848) who mapped the interior of South Africa and promoted the exploration of the Arctic; the Barrow Strait in northern Canada was named in his honor. Two partly-printed DSs, both one page, 8 x 13, and signed at the conclusion, “Jno. Barrow.” The earlier document, dated August 28, 1834, addressed to Rear Admiral Michael Seymour, regarding a circular related to “Bags and Cartridges”; the second, dated December 10, 1834, addressed to Rear Admiral Graham Hammond, affirming the receipt and transmission of his letter to “my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.” In overall fine condition.
