Description

King of France (born 1754) from 1774 to 1792. In the wake of increasing unrest that developed into full-fledged revolution, Louis and his queen, Marie Antoinette, were executed in 1793. Partly-printed vellum DS, in French, signed “Louis,” one page, 18.75 x 14.75, December 18, 1791. Interesting military document appointing a revolutionary ordnance officer, issued from Paris shortly after King Louis XVI's attempted 'flight to Varennes.' Neatly signed at the conclusion by King Louis XVI. In fine condition. This document is especially interesting as it was signed by Louis XVI on December 18, 1791, while Europe is marching to war to defend its throne, which began in the early beginning of 1792.
