Description

Pair of Civil War-period Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers, embellished with Morgan silver dollars

Pair of embellished Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers, serial #113454 and #139801, .44 Caliber, 7 1/2" barrels with very good bores that both have some mild freckling and pitting within the grooves. These revolvers, both made in 1863, are in almost identical condition, with matching numbers on all appropriate parts (although the wedge on serial #139801 has been renumbered to match). Both revolvers have an overall plum-brown patina mixing with dull pewter gray, and both have about 20-30% of the cylinder scene still visible. The brass trigger guards have a matching pale yellow-ochre patina, with no traces of the original plated finish remaining. The walnut grips of the revolvers have inset decorations on both sides: Morgan silver dollars (reverse sides out) with small copper triangles above on the right side of serial #113454; the same on the left side of serial #139801; and square filigree plaques on the opposite sides of both guns. The copper inset on serial #113454 has what appears to be initials engraved into the metal: possibly "JS," "JF," "HS," or "HF;" and "1872 / Pecos" on serial #139801. Both revolvers are mechanically functional, although serial #139801 has a very stiff, possibly replaced mainspring. This is a great looking pair of embellished 1860 Armies that would make a great addition to a collection of Wild West artifacts.
