Four rare charts and posters from the collection of Apollo astronaut Stuart A. Roosa:
Massive pair of first edition charts entitled ‘Lunar Orbital Science Flight Chart, Chart D,’ individually marked on the reverse in black felt tip, “Lunar Orbit Chart A, Copy, 9/8/70” and “Lunar Orbit Chart B, 9-10-70, (REVS 19-34).” The ‘Chart A’ example consists of four taped sheets containing all three charts, measuring an impressive 170″ x 26.5″, with the lower border marked in different colored felt tip, “REV 3, REV 12, REV 18”; and the ‘Chart B’ example is comprised of three taped charts, measuring 171″ x 26.5″, with the lower border marked “REV 20, REV 26, REV 33” twice. The corresponding revolutions to both charts are drawn and annotated across their full length, passing by notable landing sites the Sea of Tranquility, Fra Mauro, and the Ocean of Storms. Both lithographed by ACIC 3-70 and prepared under the direction of the Department of Defense by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center.
Impressive first edition satin-finish 55.5″ x 24″ photographic chart for the Apollo 13 mission entitled ‘LM Orbit Monitor Chart, Sheet of 3 of 3,” scale 1:650,000 at the equator, with an overhead view of Revolutions 3 and 12, which includes the Fra Mauro landing site. The chart bears a few handwritten notations in red felt tip. Prepared under the direction of the Department of Defense by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center.
An uncommon 22″ x 20.5″ poster by Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical, featuring the Apollo 14 crew in their white space suits next to their mission insignia, and the upper border reading: “Destination: Fra Mauro!” All are rolled and in overall very good to fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Rosemary D. Roosa, the daughter of Apollo 14 CMP Stuart A. Roosa, who served as the backup CMP for the Apollo 16 mission and from whose collection charts and posters derive.
