Magnificent group of 20 Louis & Vaughn fabric samples, scraps, and swatches from Prince's Purple Rain-era wardrobe department, in various shapes, textures, and colors. Includes: black crepe; white with a diamond pattern, decorated with gold dots and stripes on either side; a roll of silver cloth in an unusual wavy woodgrain pattern; dark gray leather; sheer black with a white fuzzy pattern (2); sheer black with a pink fuzzy pattern; sheer black with a black fuzzy pattern; aquamarine crepe; peach crepe; gray with a golden scale pattern; sheer mauve with a metallic pink pattern; white with a black fuzzy pattern (2); sheer burgundy with a red fuzzy pattern, outlined in metallic gold; sheer black with a purple fuzzy pattern; sheer black with a shiny black threaded pattern; handsome blue brocade with a green-and-gold floral pattern; sheer black with a blue-to-purple gradient pattern; and a pink-and-blue striped swatch. Also include a "Louis & Vaughn / Los Angeles" tag. In overall fine condition, with various irregular cuts to edges.
Prince's first 'wardrobe' was developed during the Purple Rain era by Louis & Vaughn and Marie France; these are amazing relics from the period, representing some of the fabrics used and put under consideration by the wardrobe designers. Consignor notes that these were acquired directly from the first assistant to Marie France.
