Description

King of Prussia (born 1712) from 1740 until his death in 1786, whose political prowess and enlightened attitudes toward religion, learning, and the humanities earned him the sobriquet 'Frederick the Great.' LS in German, one page, 7.5 x 9.25, November 30, 1780. Letter to a councilor, sent from Potsdam, acknowledging receipt of a report. In part (translated): "That's all well and good. But I must know which one of the people suggested is the best and most capable and which one is possessed of the most honesty and industriousness. I wish you a long life still, but in the event of your departure, I really would like to be assured as to whom I could entrust matters to." In fine condition, with a bit of faint dampstaining. Accompanied by the original transmittal cover, retaining its complete red wax seal on the reverse.
