Mexican soldier and politician (1794-1876) best remembered for leading the defeat of Texan defenders at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. LS signed “Ant. Lopez de Santa Anna,” one page, 8.25 x 6, June 27, 1825. Letter to the "extraordinary Envoy & Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America," in part (translated): "I have received your note inviting me to join you for dinner in celebration of the anniversary of the Independence of those same states and in reply thereunto I declare to you that I shall have the high honor of appearing personally to celebrate such a pleasing and solemn day." In very good condition, with intersecting folds and scattered moderate foxing, not detracting from Santa Anna's bold signature.
