Description

Political correspondence between John Wayne and Ronald Reagan: "We'd like it a little more private and not so much campaign style—then we could really talk"

TLS signed “Duke,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 21, 1967. Letter to Governor Ronald Reagan, in full: "It was pleasant being with you and Nancy; and Pilar, who as a rule can't stand large crowds, told me she enjoyed herself immensely sitting and talking with you two. The whole crowd certainly enjoyed your informal talk and question answering. I wanted to put in another plug for Ken Reafsnyder, but I figured everybody was pushing at you for something… so, the heavy-handed ending in this note."

Reagan drafts his reply below, in full: "Dear Duke, Just a line to tell you & Pilar how much we enjoyed being with you the other night although we'd like it a little more private and not so much campaign style—then we could really talk. We have Ken Reafsnyder on the desk & are trying to work out something we think he'd like. Nancy says you are still good for her morale. All the best, Ron." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, stapled to the upper left corner. A fantastic piece of political correspondence, connecting Hollywood to history—in more ways than one.
