Scarce partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, June 22, 1844. President Tyler directs the Secretary of State to “affix the Seal of the United States to the Ratification of the Convention for the mutual abolition of the droit d'aubaine and taxes on emigration, between the United States and His Majesty the King of Wurttemberg.” Signed boldly at the conclusion by John Tyler. In fine condition. The referenced convention addressed issues relating to emigration and property rights of citizens between the two countries, namely the abolition of droit d'aubaine, a concept in European law that allowed the state to claim the property of a deceased foreigner who had no heirs within the country, and the imposed taxation on individuals who wished to emigrate to either country.
