Description

The critical TMG glove used for safe EVAs during the Space Shuttle program

Space Shuttle-era right-handed Phase VI TMG (Thermal Micrometeoroid Garment) glove, measuring 14.5″ in length, with a pair of ILC-Dover tags on the interior: “Phase VI, Item: TMG Softgoods Sub. Assy., Code ID 74897” and “Phase VI, Item: TMG Assy., Code ID 74897”; both tags are struck through in red ink and marked “Class III W,” with the part and serial numbers to the latter label faded to the point of being illegible. The TMG glove features a gray silicon palm and fingertips, a handback flap, and an interior cable terminating in power pack, with exterior featuring an on/off pull strap. In fine condition, with light wear to the palm, including a small hole and separation of silicon to thumb area. The TMG is the outermost layer of the space suit and provides insulation, radiation shielding, and protection from micrometeorites that could otherwise puncture the suit.
