Celebrated composer (1910-1981) whose Adagio for Strings is widely considered a masterpiece of modern classical music. TLS, one page, 7.25 x 5.75, Capricorn, Mount Kisco letterhead, February 15, 1960. Letter to esteemed flautist Elaine Shaffer, in full: “It was so nice to see you and Efrem, and I thank you for the kind words about the little flute piece. This is just to tell you that I have been very busy finishing up the commissioned work for organ and orchestra for the new organ in Philadelphia and, being a single track soul, have not had the time to copy out your piece. I will send it to you just as soon as I do. There is not too much point in playing it pronto, actually, for Schirmer's do not wish to publish it until after the piano concerto into which it is being incorporated, has come out. But you shall have a MS copy for yourself as soon as I can clear my desk. We talked of you both with Betty Harkness the other day and wished that you were with us.” In fine condition.
