Description

English academic, judge, and Tory politician (1723-1780) known for writing Commentaries on the Laws of England; he was confirmed as the first Vinerian Professor of English Law in October 1758. Rare ALS signed “W. Blackstone,” one page, 4.25 x 6, February 18 [no year]. Handwritten letter from William Blackstone, in part: “I shall be happy to see You tomorrow abt One o' Clock, or sooner if Your Convenience requires it. I inclose a Paper, of some Concern to y[e] Body of…Judges at y[e] present Moment, wch You will be so good as to communicate where You did the former on this Subject.” Cloth-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 13.25 x 10.75. In fine condition, with a bit of light toning. Blackstone remains elusive across all signed formats, with this being only our third-ever example.
