Description

Austrian-born composer (1874-1951) whose development of the 'twelve-tone' system proved to be one of the most far-reaching innovations in the history of 20th century music. Signed oversized score book: Gurre-Lieder composed by Arnold Schonberg, a setting of poems by the Danish novelist Jens Peter Jacobsen. Limited edition, marked as "No. 62" by Schoenberg. Vienna: Universal-Edition, 1920. Hardcover, 14.5 x 18.75, 189 pages. Signed on the title page in fountain pen by Schonberg. In very good condition, with joints loose, partial losses to spine, and some dampstaining to corners of boards. Originally from the collection of conductor Charles Gerhardt, with his ownership inscription to first free end page.
