Vintage glossy 5 x 3.5 photo of Golda Meir embracing an Israeli soldier during the penultimate day of the Six-Day War between Israel and a coalition of Arab states, which lasted from June 5 to 10, 1967, signed below in thin black felt tip by the fourth Prime Minister of Israel. The photo is displayed in its original mat, 10 x 8.5, which is captioned: “Her Excellency, Prime Minister Golda Meir, June 9, 1967 / Presented to The United Jewish Appeal, Prime Minister’s Mission, August, 1971.” The mat is affixed inside its presentation folder, the inside of which is inscribed by Hank Rosen, an organizer for the United Jewish Appeal. In fine condition, with irregular emulsion to edges, and some wear to the folder.
Per the consignor: ‘In August 1971, my parents participated in the very restricted Prime Minister's Mission of the United Jewish Appeal. Invitations were offered to certain Americans who had been instrumental in various fundraising efforts for Israel, as well as prominent members of the Jewish Community. During the mission, the members of the group had an audience with Prime Minister Golda Meir and each participant was given an autographed photo of the PM. In addition, Hank Rosen, who I believe was the organizer of the mission, added a personalized message to my parents, Meta and Paul Bleier.’
