Manuscript vellum DS, signed “B. Franklin,” one page, 16 x 13.5, March 12, 1788. As president of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council, Franklin issues a land grant to Peter Baker “a Certain Tract of Land, called ‘Susan'sburg’ situate in Washington Township Franklin County…containing One hundred and two Acres and one hundred and thirty five perches.” Signed prominently on the left side by Benjamin Franklin, and countersigned below by Charles Biddle as secretary. The upper left retains the original paper state seal of Pennsylvania. In fine condition, with some light staining and soiling. Franklin issued this document as president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, a position analogous to the modern position of governor.
