President Van Buren recognizes a vice consul "for the ports of Boston & Salem"

Partly-printed DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 8 x 9.75, January 21, 1840. President Van Buren directs the Secretary of State to “affix the Seal of the United States to an Exequatur for Edward I. Tobey, Vice Consul of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, for the ports of Boston & Salem.” Signed at the conclusion by Martin Van Buren. In fine condition.
