Description

“Let’s make it happen together, steve jobs"—saved from oblivion, a one-of-a-kind ‘The Macintosh Office’ poster signed by Jobs and several other top Apple execs

Magnificent color 23.75 x 35.5 Apple Computer promotional poster for “The Macintosh Office,” featuring several interconnected products like the Macintosh XL, the AppleLine, LaserWriter, and Macintosh 512K, calligraphically inscribed along the top, “Thanks to the North Central Team for a great rollout,” and neatly and centrally signed below in red felt tip, “Let’s make it happen together, steve jobs.” The poster is signed by 14 other high-level executives and engineers from the Mac Office management and development teams, including: Peter Friedman, Mike Murray, Bill Campbell, Bill Scott, Chris Anderson, Randy Battat, and Peggy Dilal. The consignor notes that there is one more signature on the back of the poster, which originally hung in the Apple sales office in Rosemont, Illinois. Framed to a slightly larger size and in fine condition.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the consignor: “I was hired at Apple in 1986 as a Field Support Engineer and Trainer and I first saw the poster hanging on the wall while interviewing at the Apple sales office in Rosemont, IL. My team was located at an off-site training center in Rolling Meadows, IL. I was promoted to Service Training Manager in 1988.

In 1993, Apple began a process of layoffs that would eventually decimate the Field Service Engineering group but Apple kept the Service Training teams in place because they hadn't yet developed a replacement system. As part of this process, the Service Training team was moved into the Apple sales office in Rosemont where we set up training labs where they had space enough to accommodate us. The poster hung in one of the two service training labs we were given.

In 1996, I was advised that my team would be disbanded and they prepared me to meet with each trainer/engineer on my team and inform them that they would be laid off. After the layoffs, I was tasked with breaking down the training labs and disposal of the documentation, hardware, decorations, and tools. At that time I took this and a few other posters and souvenirs home because I thought they were cool and couldn't bear to throw them out. This poster has been hanging in my basement home office ever since."
