Description

Born Giovanni Maria Mastai-Ferretti in 1792, he served as pope for a record 31 years, 7 months and 23 days, beginning on June 16, 1846, until his death in 1878. ALS in Italian, signed “Arcivescovo di Spoleto,” one page, 7.5 x 10.75, April 18, 1832. Untranslated handwritten letter by the future Pope Pius IX during his final year as Archbishop of Spoleto. In fine condition, with multiple intersecting folds.
