French army officer and composer (1760-1836) who wrote the words and music to the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. ALS in French, signed “R. de Lisle,” one page, 5 x 7.75, January 12, 1825. Handwritten letter to a gentleman in Paris, in part (translated): "Do you remember me?…And that difficult literary compilation? It is finished now and ready to be published. It will appear in the course of the week. Are you still available for a few subscriptions? If so, let me know the number of copies you think you may need. I would like to see you again and have a chat together. How can that be arranged?" Addressed on the integral leaf in Rouget de Lisle's hand. In fine condition, with a small repaired tear to the upper left edge.
