French painter (1770-1837) best remembered for his portraits, who served as baron of the Empire in 1809, an officer of the legion d'honneur, and was first painter to the king under both Napoleon and Louis XVIII. ALS in French, signed “F. Gerard,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, March 17, 1811. Untranslated handwritten letter by the celebrated painter of the Napoleonic age. In fine condition, with some slightly irregular light toning.
