Uncommon badge for a member of the committee charged with organizing the reception of the returning United States Olympic team from the Amsterdam 1928 Summer Olympics, with the pendant measuring 45 mm in diameter, suspended from a tricolor ribbon and "Committee" bar pin. The front features the seal of New York City raised in relief, encircled by "Mayor's Committee, The City of New York," with a legend on the reverse: "Reception in honor of returning Olympic team, Hon. James J. Walker, Mayor, August 22, 1928." Also bears a Dieges & Clust maker's mark.
The American Olympic team returned from Amsterdam aboard the S.S. President Roosevelt, where a glorious reception awaited them in New York City. Although the ticker-tape parade scheduled for August 22nd was canceled due to heavy rain, the athletes were treated to a luncheon at the Hotel McAlpin.
