Manuscript DS as president, one page, 7 x 4.5, March 29, 1856. President Pierce appoints a gentleman "to discharge the Duties of Sixth Auditor of the Treasury for the Post Office Department." Prominently signed at the conclusion in bold ink by President Franklin Pierce. Handsomely double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 17.75 x 11. In very good to fine condition, with slightly irregular light toning, and a repaired tear under the signature.
