Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12 x 9, October 3, 1812. Desirable military land grant issued to James Alexander, "assignee of Thomas Horsefield, late a Sergeant in the Virginia Line," for a tract of land containing 100 acres, "in pursuance of the act of Congress passed on the first day of June 1796, entitled 'An Act regulating the grants of Land appropriated for Military Services, and for the Society of the United Brethren for propagating the gospel among the Heathen.'" Signed at the conclusion in ink by President James Madison and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Edward Tiffin. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact, with a few missing points. In fine condition, with old tape stains to the side edges.
