Civil War-era 'housewife' sewing kit identified to Confederate soldier Robert Banks of Co. D, 6th Virginia Infantry Regiment. The dark brown kit measures 2″ x 3″, and would be used to hold thread and stitching needles of in-the-field uniform repairs. The flap is crudely hand-stitched, "R. Banks, Co. D 6 VA." In very good condition, with heavy wear and soiling. Banks was wounded at Manassas and taken prisoner.
