American physicist (born 1930) who, with John Bardeen and John Robert Schrieffer, developed the BCS theory of superconductivity, for which they received the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physics. Letter to Mark Hutchison, in part: "It is difficult to make a single choice of the most important scientific discovery of the 20th Century. Let me, however, name three: i) The Special and General Theories of Relativity, ii) Quantum Mechanics, iii) The molecular structure of DNA." In fine condition.
