Description

"I have thought of some one for Disraeli"

ALS, one page both sides, 5 x 8, 33 Baker Street letterhead, August 20. Handwritten letter to Mr. Miller, in part: “I hate to keep bothering you but I have thought of some one for Disraeli. What about Earnest [sic] Milton? It seems to me he is very much the type, though I only know him in one play, ‘The Dark Tower.’ I understand he is a very fine actor. Somehow he seems my idea of Disraeli. Also I would suggest Bellenden Clarke, who was in our show as Lord Conyingham [sic], and Sir Ponsonby. He is an excellent type and a real Victorian. He is now in the Shaw company at the Cambridge…I am greatly flattered that you have asked me to help, I hope I can.” In fine condition, with a strip of light toning to the last page.

According to IMDB, Milton played the role of Benjamin Disraeli on two occasions: in the 1947 NBC television film Victoria Regina, and in the 1952 BBC television series Happy and Glorious.
