Civil War-era hardtack biscuit brought home by Almon Gould, a corporal in the NY 109th Infantry, after the Civil War. The cracker measures 3″ x 3″ and is framed to an overall size of 4.5″ x 5.5″. A manuscript note applied to the backing reads: "Hard-Tack brought from the War by A. W. Gould. One of 75 as carried with him at the time that he was hit. This Hard-Tack was from the canvas pack of A. W. Gould and carried by him in the Battle of the Wilderness, Va., May 6, at 7 A.M."
