Scarce emergency oxygen system built for the Convair B-58 Hustler crewmember escape capsule, measuring approximately 11″ x 6″ x 11.5″, comprising several Bendix components in their original assembly. Includes the oxygen system capsule, pressure regulator, snorkel fitting, recharge port, and emergency oxygen gauge. In fine condition.
The B-58 Hustler's innovative ejection capsule, developed by the Stanley Aircraft Corp., allowed crewmembers to eject safely at twice the speed of sound and from as high as 70,000 feet. The capsule sealed the aircrew inside airtight clamshell doors, and air for the pressurized capsule came from an independent oxygen supply system. After ejection, a parachute lowered the entire capsule back to Earth, where shock absorbers eased the impact with the ground.
