A key component of the Apollo spacecraft's guidance, navigation, and control system, the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) served as a central ‘brain’ of the Apollo Command Module, responsible for processing data, making decisions, and controlling various critical systems to ensure the success of Apollo missions, including the iconic Apollo 11 mission that successfully landed astronauts on the Moon. Some of its responsibilities included processing critical data for guidance and navigation, controlling the firing of the Reaction Control System, and managing the ignition, shutdown, and performance of the Service Propulsion System.
