LS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Tuskegee Normal & Industrial Institute letterhead, May 30, 1913. Letter to Mrs. A. S. Ashbridge, a potential benefactor, in part: “We are very anxious to end our school year free of debt and this is my excuse for writing you at this time. The enclosed circular gives information as to some of the results obtained by this institution, and, also as to its immediate needs. There are few institutions in the country where students do more to help themselves than is true here: they provide the cost of their board, books, traveling expenses, clothing, etc., but are unable to pay the cost of tuition which is $50 a year. I am writing with the hope that you will be able to contribute toward our Scholarship Fund, providing for the whole or any part of the tuition of one student. Any amount, however small, will be helpful to us.” In fine condition.
