British-Chinese author and screenwriter (1907-1993) who was best known for his many books chronicling the adventures of his charming hero Simon Templar, alias ‘The Saint.’ Scarce color semi-glossy 3.5 x 4.75 photo of Charteris in a bust-length pose, signed and inscribed in red ballpoint, "To James M. Harvey, with all good wishes, Leslie Charteris, 72/8/5," who adds an immediately recognizable sketch of his Saint character. Reverse bears a J. LaMotte photography credit stamp. In very fine condition. While the Saint character has retained popularity through numerous film and television adaptations, the same cannot be said for its creator: Charteris remains quite rare across all signed formats.
