Rare unissued partly-printed War Department invitation for "Free Transportation" to accompany Abraham Lincoln's body on the funeral train from Washington, D.C., to Springfield, Illinois, 4.5 x 3.25, imprinted: "________ invited to accompany the remains of the late President, Abraham Lincoln from the City of Washington to Springfield, Illinois." When found, these scarce passes are usually filled out with the recipient's name and signed by Edward D. Townsend. In fine condition, with a few small stains.
