American songwriter (1820-1895) who found particular fame during the Civil War for his patriotic songs. AMQS on an off-white 5 x 3.5 slip, signed below in ink, "Geo. F. Root, Chicago, May 24th, 1869." Root pens a couple bars of music and lyrics from his popular Civil War tune, "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp, the boys are marching." Affixed to a slightly larger album page and in fine condition.
