Description

Aggressive, all-action boxer (1881-1967) who fought many of the best bantamweight and featherweights of his era and, at one point, would lay claim to the World Featherweight crown when, on October 13, 1904, he knocked out Abe Attell for the title. However, Sullivan’s claim to being the champion was disputed because he had weighed in over the agreed weight limit. Vintage matte-finish 3.75 x 5.5 photo of Sullivan in a half-length seated pose, affixed to the original 6 x 7.75 mount by the Roberston Studio of St. Louis, which is signed and inscribed in black ink, "To my friend, Joe Nolan, yours truly, Brooklyn Tommy Sullivan.” In fine condition, with light soiling and wear and trimmed edges to the studio mount.
