American soldier and statesman (1739-1812) who served as Governor of New York and vice president in the Jefferson and Madison administrations. Two items: an ink signature, “Geo. Clinton,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2 sheet clipped from a document; and a hand-addressed and free-franked mailing envelope, unfolded to an overall size of 7.5 x 6.75, franked in the upper right, “Free, Geo. Clinton,” who writes the address below, “Nathan B. Tallmadge, Esquire…John’s Street, New York.” Another hand has dated the envelope to November 1, 1809, which coincides with his tenure as the Vice President of the United States. Both items are affixed to a 7.75 x 10.5 sheet. In overall fine condition.
