Description

American character actor (1882-1964) best remembered for his roles in the Universal Studios horror films such as Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), and The Mummy (1932). ALS signed “Uncle Van,” three pages, 5 x 8, February 18, 1962. Handwritten letter to his nephew Bill and his wife Barbara, in part: "Thanks for your letter, Barb, telling me of Paul's funeral. It must have been most impressive and I am sorry that I couldn't be there. I feel it very much that I was not. First missing Myra's & now Paul's. But perhaps it is just as well—I don't know whether I could have taken it—cowardly perhaps…I can well believe the funeral was most impressive…But what can I say-without being sorry for myself, I feel alone, quite alone now." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Van Sloan's hand.
