United States Army physician (1851-1902) who led the team that confirmed the theory that yellow fever is transmitted by a particular mosquito species rather than by direct contact; his work gave rise to the new fields of epidemiology and biomedicine. A number of institutions and facilities, most notably the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, now bear his name. Scarce ink signature, "Walter Reed,” on an off-white 5.75 x 4.75 partial title page from the New York Medical Journal, December 1874. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
