Scottish surgeon and botanist in the East India Company (1796-1872) who made massive contributions as an economic botanist and taxonomist in south India: he contributed to the introduction of American cotton, described 110 new genera and 1267 new species of flowering plants, and published multiple illustrated botanical works. Rare ALS signed “Rob. Wight,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, August 10, 1865. Handwritten letter to English botanist and taxonomist Maxwell T. Masters, apologizing for his delayed reply and asking him to extend thanks to a colleague. In part: "When writing to Dr. Meisner oblige me by conveying to him my sincere thanks for his kindness in thinking of me and transmitting such a very acceptable souvenir. My thanks are equally due to you…On the matter of lending a helping hand to the Chronicle I shall only be too happy to find myself competent to do so but in truth I have got so completely out of the way of that kind of work. In very good condition, with an inch-long vertical tear passing through the surname in his signature, with small hole above, and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
