(Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Beautiful original panoramic concept painting by Mary Blair, showing Peter Pan surrounded by five mermaids basking on the moonlit rocks in Neverland's Mermaid Lagoon. Accomplished in tempera on 19 x 9 artist’s board, the scene wonderfully portrays the mythical figures perched on black rocks emerging up from the lagoon's still blue waters. Peter Pan is shown joyfully waving at the center, and the twilight hues of green and teal in the sky add a dreamlike quality to the fantastic composition. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners.
Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World), and her largest work, the multistory mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
