Fully signed albums by the Doors are amongst rock music's most coveted and elusive treasures. This particular example, which was amazingly discovered in a moving sale, is made all the more desirable and significant for the placement of its autographs, which are neatly penned over the printed lyrics to the epic performance piece 'The Celebration of the Lizard.' The entire composition was originally intended to be recorded and released as one full side of the band's third studio album, Waiting for the Sun, but record producer Paul A. Rothchild, as well as band members, thought that the extended poetic sections and its overall length made a complete recording impossible, not to mention its inherent lack of commercial appeal. The connection between the song and Morrison’s own alter ego nickname of ‘the Lizard King,’ a monicker born from his purported ability to talk to and control reptiles, makes this a most dynamic and sought-after Doors display piece.
