"We have been rather heavily involved with the aftermath of John Glenn's flight, our regular duties, and a move to Houston"

American aerospace engineer and an aviation/space pioneer (1913-2000) who was the first director of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center, which was later renamed the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Two items: a first day cover featuring a block of four 4¢ Project Mercury stamps, signed in black felt tip, "Robert R. Gilruth"; and a TLS signed "Robert R. Gilruth," one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, April 18, 1962, in part: "I am enclosing the autographed cover which you requested. The delay in answering is regretted but we have been rather heavily involved with the aftermath of John Glenn's flight, our regular duties, and a move to Houston." In fine condition, with small binder dings to the left edge of the letter.
