Attractive original artwork by Chris Calle for a United States postage stamp triptych honoring U.S. and Russian space achievements, accomplished in mixed media on 22 x 29.25 illustration paper, depicting Faith 7 pilot Gordon Cooper with arms akimbo in his silver Mercury space suit against a background denoting the history of rocket launches; the rocket images have been applied to the hand-painted background, which bears stamped designs of rocket diagrams, da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, and a facsimile autograph of Calle, who does sign in the lower right corner in black ink, “Chris Calle, Panel #1.” The artwork has been applied to a same-size illustration board with the reverse bearing an affixed information label: “Special, ‘US/Russia Join Space Tryptych for US Stamps, Artist: Chris Calle, Date: April 9, 1992, Product Mgr: Beth Caspar.” In fine condition.
