Partly-printed DS, signed “H. Dearborn” and "T. Melvill," one page, 9.5 x 4, March 21, 1811. Port of Boston and Charlestown document certifying an import of "one Hogshead of Rum." Signed at the conclusion by Henry Dearborn as collector and countersigned by Thomas Melvill as inspector. In fine condition, with somewhat irregular overall toning. Dearborn is remembered for his service during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and later stint as secretary of war under Thomas Jefferson; Melvill is best known as a member of the Sons of Liberty who participated in the Boston Tea Party, and also as the grandfather of writer Herman Melville. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
